Sony to showcase camera tech for drones and autonomy

XPONENTIAL, the leading trade fair for uncrewed systems and robotics, is making its European debut, and Sony is ready to make an impact. From 18 to 20 February, Messe Düsseldorf will host Europe’s premier event for autonomous systems, mobility and robotics. Teaming up with drone specialist Dronivo, Sony will showcase its high-resolution, easy-to-integrate camera systems designed to elevate drone technology.

At XPONENTIAL, Sony will highlight its compact interchangeable lens camera ILX-LR1 and high-sensitivity block cameras designed for uncrewed systems. The ILX-LR1 features a 35mm full-frame sensor with 61.0 megapixels and is ideal for drone applications, offering a lightweight, compact design (74 x 100 x 42.5mm, 243 grams). With a high-resolution Exmor R CMOS sensor and BIONZ XR processors, it captures continuous images at up to eight frames per second, making it suitable for aerial photography, inspection and surveying.

Sony will also showcase its FCB-ER9500 block camera, featuring 4K60P output and a 25x optical zoom lens. Equipped with the STARVIS2 4K sensor, it provides high-quality imaging for industrial and surveillance applications, even in low-light conditions.

Wide range of applications

“The XPONENTIAL show is coming to Europe at exactly the right time,” said Matthew Swinney, head of Image Sensing Solutions, Sony Europe. “The use of drones in industry, agriculture and the energy sector is growing steadily and with it the need for professional and industrial imaging processes embedded in the corresponding workflows. As a technology partner, we can demonstrate the advantages of our professional camera systems here. Optimally integrable, highly flexible, powerful and easy to operate – these are the demands placed on camera technology in drones and autonomous systems. And this is exactly what our professional camera systems, together with our ecosystem partners, enable.”

XPONENTIAL Europe brings together a diverse community of autonomy leaders – from researchers and engineers to executives and policymakers. This event attracts companies from around the world, from established industry giants to innovative start-ups, all presenting the latest advancements in autonomous mobility, robotics, and artificial intelligence. The event spans a wide range of applications – from autonomous navigation in the air, on land and at sea, to exploring possibilities in space.
